This hutch is nice, and actually pretty easy to build
Material needed:
2, 2'x 2' pre-cut, light wood (like birch) boards
2, 2'x 4' pre-cut, light wood boards
1, 2'x 4' pre-cut board, that can be thinner, for the back
2, 1"x 2"x 4' light wood pieces for door sides
2, 1"x 2"x 2' light wood pieces for door top and bottom
1/2" square wire section, at least 2'x 4' for the door front
U-shaped nails, or tacks for holding the wire on the door
2 hinges
1 latch
screws or nails
Tools needed:
Hammer
Screwdriver (if using screws)
45 degee angle cutting saw
wire-cutters
Instructions:
1) Nail or screw the 2x2 and 2x4 boards together to make a big box that is open on one side (the front).
2) Cut the 1"x 2" wood peices so they have 45 degree angle corners, and nail or screw them together to make the door frame.
3) Cut the wire mesh to fit the door frame. Stretch it and nail it in place with the U-shaped tacks.
4) Attach the door to the box with the hinges, and add the latch. Raise the hutch off the ground with plastic stool(s).
Optional:
- Add shelves and ledges for hopping as desired
- Add "blasted grape vines" (from pet store) for interesting climbing
- Add an "apartment" (pre-made) from pet store
- Use angle brackets to support shelves and things as needed
- Add feeder, water bottle, and running wheel
(return to home)
